About Thurston County Food Bank
It is the mission of the Thurston County Food Bank (TCFB) to eliminate hunger within our community, in the spirit of neighbor helping neighbor. A volunteer Board of Directors, all of whom are community members, governs the Thurston County Food Bank. Our service area includes the urban core of Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, their surrounding growth areas and underserved parts of Thurston County. Our Olympia and Lacey Food Pantries offer an indoor grocery shopping experience with the opportunity to choose most items. Because our two Food Pantries are not convenient for all our neighbors experiencing food insecurity, we ensure that food resources are available throughout our community. We accomplish this through an extensive network of Satellite and Mobile Food Banks, and a Home Delivery Program. Over 40% of the individuals we serve are children. In addition to providing our regular service to families with children, we prioritize kids through our FORKids, Summer Lunch, and School Gardens programs. Furthering our commitment to reducing barriers to services, we are expanding partnerships with local social service providers to offer essential non-food client services in a shared community resource space at our Food Pantries. With 25,000 square feet of dry and cold storage at our Tumwater Warehouse & Distribution Center, we are able to distribute large amounts of federal foods such as TEFAP, CSFP (for those over 60), and state subsidies known as EFAP. We also serve as a Regional Distribution Organization for Food Lifeline, a regional partner, to a four-county area that includes Thurston, Mason, Lewis and Kitsap. We collaborate closely with emergency food distribution partners inside and outside of Thurston County — food pantries, senior centers, community meal programs, shelters, and more — a network of nonprofits working to feed their communities.
