About TIEGERMAN (formerly School for Language & Communication Development)
Tiegerman (formerly SLCD) is Pre-K through 12 school for children with Autism and Learning Disorders. Revolutionizing a teaching method, our founder, and CEO Dr. Ellenmorris Tiegerman formed "The Tiegerman Learning Method" (TLM). TLM teaches children to use symbols to communicate first, to acquire word meaning second and to develop linguistic structures third. At Tiegerman, we are not interested in teaching children to identify colors, shapes and numbers. We are interested in teaching children to talk about their experiences, their thoughts and their feelings. We are interested in teaching children to acquire knowledge outside of the classroom by learning to ask questions. We are interested in teaching children to share their knowledge by learning to have conversations and to tell story narratives. All of these skills provide the foundation for learning to read and to write. The Tiegerman mission: "Teaching the extraordinary" reflects the organization's goal to substantively transform the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities from preschool throughout adulthood by means of the Tiegerman Methodology. As experts in language development, we infuse all of our programs with language enrichment activities and experiences. We are committed to providing an enduring opportunity for exceptional instruction, education and support to ensure that the children and adults that we serve achieve their potential in life. We believe that each individual that we serve is extraordinary and through our extraordinary efforts will achieve an independent, successful future. Tiegerman is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
