About TMU Rare Diseases Club
The Rare Diseases Club at Toronto Metropolitan University is a Non-profit Student Organization that is dedicated to raising awareness of rare diseases. Rare diseases, defined as serious, chronic conditions are debilitating and life-threatening. Our hopes are to inspire TMU Science students to adopt attitudes that will help people with rare diseases as a whole. Our organization plans to advance the conversation around rare diseases in many ways such as: - Setting up a charity with the cooperation of The Canadian Organization of Rare Disorders (CORD) to help patients diagnosed with rare diseases in Canada who are not informed about the possible treatments that could save and significantly improve their lives. - Hosting monthly podcasts where we would invite professors, health professionals or patients who will share their experiences and talk about current research about their diseases. - Hosting an Event on February 28, 2023, which is Rare Disease Day in Canada with the theme being Health Equity. Our team would engage with the TMU community in many strategies throughout the week to inform them on this important topic. Consider this a safe place to share your story and learn more about different rare diseases!
