About Toastmasters District 17 Western Australia
Toastmasters District 17 (WA) of Toastmasters International is the organisation that represents Toastmasters clubs in all of WA. There are approx. 80 clubs in Perth and regional WA. From a humble beginning in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters International has grown to become a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. The nonprofit organization now has nearly 365,000 members worldwide with about 1,700 residing in District 17. The purpose of Toastmasters is to help members overcome apprehensions about speaking in public and to improve communication skills. This is accomplished by providing a self-paced, focused speaking program with a supportive, experienced group of people to assist you. This mutual support will help you become more effective in several skills, including formal public presentations, individual communications, impromptu speaking situations, managing and participating in meetings, and leading and managing people. Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian. Speechcraft Programme: Do you need to communicate more effectively at work, home or socially? Do you want to present your ideas convincingly in an organised and logical manner? Are you looking to improve your self confidence in front of an audience? Achieve all your personal goals through the globally recognised Toastmasters International Speechcraft program. Speechcraft is a series of public speaking classes designed to develop your public speaking ability and so much more. You will gain confidence in all aspects of communication, including written and impromptu speeches, audio-visual aids, body language, active listening and critical evaluation. https://toastmastersd17.org/speechcraft/
