About Toilets for People

Toilets For People is a social business that designs, manufactures and sells affordable, portable family-scale composting toilets to NGO's working to bring sanitation to communities in the developing world. We partner with local communities and non-profit organizations on the ground to make sure we are providing the communities we serve with toilets that meet their needs and desires. We use appropriate technology and locally sourced materials to ensure that our toilets are effective, elegant, and affordable. Problem: Half the population of the developing world—more than 2.5 billion people—don’t have somewhere safe, private, or hygienic to go to the bathroom. 4,000 children die every day from preventable diarrhea-related diseases. Toilets for People is going to change those numbers. We’re dedicated to bringing sanitation solutions that last to the developing world, particularly to communities living in flood-prone and waterlogged areas where pit latrines and flush toilets fail. We believe that market-based solutions and not just handouts are key to providing a meaningful and long lasting solution to sanitation epidemics. By using appropriate technology that can be repaired using local materials and partnering with people on the ground our toilet's are long-lasting, safe, affordable, effective, and hygienic.
