Packo’s is the leading restaurant in the Eastern European casual dining segment. Eastern Europe serves as the inspiration for the brand, from its menus to its award-winning Hungarian Hot Dog to the Eastern European design of its restaurants. In 1932, Tony and Rose Packo had a dream of opening a small eatery where Toledoans could gather for good food and friendship during a tough time in American history, the Great Depression. With recipes from their Hungarian lineage and a flair for hospitality, the husband and wife team created a local legend that continues to have a strong local following and which attracts visitors from around the world. Tony Packo’s gained world-wide fame when M*A*S*H character Corporal Maxwell Klinger, who was played by Jamie Farr, another Toledo native, made mention of the Packo restaurant in six episodes of the show. In a 1976 episode, Klinger says, “If you are ever in Toledo, Ohio, on the Hungarian side of town, Tony Packo’s got the greatest Hungarian hot dogs.” With those words, Klinger put Packo’s on the map. The iconic establishment currently operates five locations throughout the Greater Toledo area, with more locations planned.
