About Toronto Association of Learning and Preserving the History of WII in Asia
Toronto Association for Learning and Preserving the History of WWII in Asia (ALPHA) is a community based organization with mandate to foster humanity education and racial harmony through the learning of the history of WWII in Asia. Background As compared to the Jewish Holocaust and the WWII history in Europe, the world’s knowledge of the atrocities happened in Asia during the same period of time has been somewhat limited due to reasons with much complexity. The continued denial of the Japanese Government with regard to its war crimes committed by the Japanese Imperial Army in Asia has been a stumbling block to ultimate peace and reconciliation among the East Asian countries, and the world at large. The War ended 64 years ago on Aug. 15, 1945. The diminishing voices of these aging survivors have been forgotten; this living history has been neglected under a collective amnesia. Canadian education has belief and strong stand on inclusive curriculum. The education initiatives by Toronto ALPHA on Asian WWII atrocities will provide comprehensive and unique learning opportunities to Canadian educators and students on an important, yet forgotten chapter of history against humanity. We trust that through a global view on war and conflict, our Canadian young generations will be able to learn to stand up as global citizens and safeguard the value of social justice, mutual respect, and racial harmony.
