About Trans Housing Coalition

Trans Housing Coalition (THC) is an Atlanta-based 501(c)(3) working to end chronic homelessness among transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) people, with a focus on those most marginalized, particularly Black and Brown communities. Founded in 2020 by Jesse Pratt-Lopez, THC began as a grassroots crowdfunding campaign that raised nearly $3M from over 90,000 donors—proving that safe housing for trans people is a value our community shares and will mobilize around. We provide emergency shelter, transitional housing, and permanent housing placements throughout the Atlanta metro area using a Housing First approach. Our case managers conduct regular street outreach and rapidly connect unhoused trans people with safe, affirming housing options—not just in our transitional home, but in long-term rental units across the city. In 2021, we opened Muffin’s Place, Atlanta’s first Black trans-owned transitional home, named in honor of a beloved sister lost to violence. After extensive renovations, it reopened in 2024 as a four-bedroom, two-bath residence with room for future expansion. It serves as just one part of our broader housing strategy. To promote client safety, healing, and independence, THC provides trauma-informed, person-centered support. Through deep partnerships with organizations across Atlanta, our team connects residents to vital wraparound services including mental health care, STI testing and treatment, addiction support, education, job training, and gender-affirming medical care. At THC, we don’t just offer shelter—we provide the foundation for trans lives to thrive. We house our people, build power, and protect Black trans futures.
