Both the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency have guidance and regulations in place for clinical trial diversity planning. Despite making up 13% of the US population, only 5% of African Americans participate in clinical trials. For Hispanics and Latinx, the data is worse, with only 1% participating despite making up 18% of the US population. This stark disparity highlights the urgent need for initiatives like Trial Equity’s, which aim to bridge this gap. There is a lot of talk about the need for diversity in clinical trials. However, there is not a lot of action. A recent Tuffs CSDD finding suggests that one of the root causes is a lack of adequate infrastructure to engage and recruit diverse patient populations. Trial Equity is a catalyst for change. At Trial Equity our mission is to ensure that medicines are safe and effective for all people by providing inclusive access to medical research opportunities. We do this by equipping clinical research professionals with the education and resources they need to: • Expand access to clinical research opportunities. • Ensure clinical trial participants reflect the disease population being studied. • Bring quality to drug development through diverse participation. • Create passionate advocates for clinical trial diversity. • Accelerate patient recruitment.
