The Problem: when coming out of treatment of addiction many, newly clean, people have absolutely nowhere to go to stay clean, sober. Research suggests that 21% (6 million) of Canadians will experience addiction in their lifetime and of those approximately 1 in 205 will seek treatment from their addiction. Further aches and pains: as a society in Canada, we seem to be doing quite well at keeping addicts alive. Through harm-reduction strategies and treatment opportunities, we are definitely creating a shift in helping these vulnerable souls live another day. However, are we truly "helping" them? Or are we simply getting them clean for 30 days and kicking them back out on the streets? This is where Turn The Paige comes in: after our cousin passed away from complications of a long-term alcohol addiction, we decided that she came out of treatment far too many times with nowhere to go. Her along with MANY addicts come out of treatment with a new-found clarity and many times find themselves gravitating back to the people, places and things that got them sick to begin with. For this reason, Turn The Paige Recovery House was founded; to give women, with minimum 30 days clean a safe and sober "home" to go too. A warm and welcoming environment where they can be vulnerable but also a place where they can grow and heal within their own recovery. We currently are operating one home in Nanaimo, BC. Due to our expansive waiting list, we are looking for opportunities to grow and expand. Our goal is to stretch this beautiful concept across Canada as we know how desperately what we are offering is needed.
