About Turtles Fly Too
Turtles Fly Too’s (TF2) mission involves coordinating and facilitating the general aviation industry in large scale “first responder” relocation efforts. We coordinate with general aviation pilots to donate their expertise, aircraft, fuel, and labor while leaving a lasting mark on endangered species rescue efforts. Turtles Fly Too partners with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to educate students and other non-profit organizations about the importance of general aviation to our society, and specifically, endangered sea turtle rescue operations. Through Turtles Fly Too’s educational programs, participants have the opportunity to thoroughly examine several magnificently preserved specimens generously gifted by NOAA. This enables Turtles Fly Too to educate participants on sea turtle migration patterns, the factors that put them at risk for stranding, and ultimately how we can work together to conserve their species. NOAA and other organizations call on Turtles Fly Too to provide air transportation when endangered species are threatened, either through a cold stun event, entanglement, or when an endangered animal is injured. These transports are made possible by the donation of time, equipment, and fuel from our “Turtle Fliers,” the dedicated, generous pilots associated with Turtles Fly Too. Using flights instead of ground transport shortens travel time and therefore reduces stress on these turtles and other endangered species. Also, the shorter travel time presents the opportunity to relocate some animals that otherwise could not be able to be moved due to the long travel times involved. These dynamics ultimately result in higher opportunities for recovery because we can transport patients directly to the best facilities and locations based on their needs.
