About Ulysses De Santi
ULYSSES DE SANTI was created out of a simple desire on the part of its founders to showcase the beauty and craftsmanship of Brazilian modernist design and add their own personal perspective to a historical dialogue that is only beginning to be truly explored and celebrated internationally. In order to show the absolute best of 'Modernismo Brasilero' they developed a flexible exhibition format that balances the curatorial need to delve into the singular and novel aspects of the master designers with a private and intimate platform with which to engage collectors. Starting with an initial exhibition in Los Angeles in 2016 under the title of Studio 55, the partnership of de Santi and Tanure set in motion their dynamic model: rather than establishing a gallery in a fixed location, they would produce exhibitions in various spaces across the globe, giving more resonance to the works from great designers of the period. These celebrated masters were Joaquim Tenreiro, Sergio Rodgrigues, Jorge Zalzupin, Geraldo de Barros and Carlo Hauner & Martin Eisler. Over time and with great research, this list has expanded to include Oscar Niemeyer, Jean Gillon, Jose Zanine Caldas, Percival Lafer and Celina Decoracoes, amongst others, as more and more demand has presented itself in both the marketplace and scholarship has opened the doorways for more representation by these important but internationally lesser-known designers. In 2017 the company formalized its name under the brand ULYSSES DE SANTI and in May 2018, their exhibition in Hong Kong marked the first time Brazilian modernist design was showcased in China and was met with great curatorial, journalistic and public acclaim. The flexibility and excitement of constantly using new and fresh spaces allows ULYSSES DE SANTI to constantly focus not just on the manner in which the selected pieces are presented, but the way in which each piece can be viewed an important historical artifact to be preserved and contextualized.
