About Under Industries

Under Industries is a Swiss deep-tech venture shaping the future of underground infrastructure. Our mission is to make the construction of utility networks faster, cleaner, and more cost-effective through innovation in trenchless technology. At the heart of our work lies our Micro Tunnel Boring Robot (MTBR): A compact, containerised system that digs underground boreholes while simultaneously extruding a polymer pipe directly in situ. This integrated process eliminates the need for prefabricated pipes and heavy on-site assembly, reducing surface disruption, logistics, and labour requirements. Our first focus area is the electricity distribution grid, where the shift from overhead to underground cabling is accelerating due to urbanization, renewable energy integration, and the need for more resilient networks. Traditional methods are either disruptive (cut-and-cover) or prohibitively expensive (conventional microtunneling and horizontal directional drilling/HDD). Under Industries bridges this gap with a solution that is more efficient, scalable, and suitable for dense urban and industrial areas. Building on five years of R&D at Swissloop Tunneling, our team combines academic excellence, industry partnerships, and entrepreneurial drive. With prototypes already tested and international recognition through The Boring Company’s Not-A-Boring Competition, we are moving rapidly toward commercial pilots in collaboration with utilities, construction firms, and municipalities. We believe that sustainable underground infrastructure is key to enabling the energy transition, smart cities, and resilient societies.
