About UNESCO IHP National Committee of the Republic of Korea (IHP-ROK) / 사단법인 유네스코 정부
The IHP National Committee of the Republic of Korea (IHP-ROK) was established based on UNESCO International Hydrological Decade in 1965 and joined the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) in 1975. ROK has participated in the UNESCO International Hydrological Decade since 1965, and has been participating in each stage of the IHP phases from 1975 to the present. In addition, since ROK was elected as a member of the IHP Council in 2002, the country has fulfilled its duties over five terms so far, and played a pivotal role within the IHP, such as being elected as the chair of the IHP Asia-Pacific region (27 countries) for the 2023-2024 term. IHP-ROK, newly launched as a corporation in June 2022, is facilitating the national IHP implementation to solve national and international water problems actively based on the importance of intergovernmental water cooperation to enhance international water security. We support for water-related government policies, and works toward the establishment of related systems for institutional cooperation and international exchanges.
