About Unicorn Garden
Unicorn Garden was created to assist foster youth to mature into competent self-sufficient and productive adults. In order to reach this goal, the youth are provided with a stable, structured, and supportive environment that emphasizes learning basic living skills, implementing positive reinforcements, and intensive in house mental health services from Licensed Practitioners of the Healing Arts and rehabilitation specialists all within the confines of a Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) licensed by California’s Department of Social Services and Department of Health Care Services. The overall focus of our program is behavior modification. Unicorn utilizes strength-based methods, Trauma Informed Care, and intensive mental health services (Psychological evaluations and testing, individual therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, and psychotropic medication management). Our staff is trained to use de-escalation methods and techniques in problem solving. Therapy group is mainly cognitive-behavioral approach, where emphasis is placed upon focusing on unresolved conflicts with self and others, renewing thought processes, development of verbal and nonverbal skills, and specific behaviors and their effect on others. Also, more specific emphasis is placed on examining a youth’s own core family and what inside and outside resources are available to the youth in order to function more effectively and to develop a sense of identity and belonging to a family and the community. Unicorn Garden provides multiple opportunities for the youth under our care to mature, grow and expand their overall knowledge and experiences. We utilize an Independent Living Skills Program teaching our youth vital real-world skills such as: job searching, resume building, interviewing, budgeting, banking, transportation options (California Driver’s License and Golden Empire Transit bus transportation), cooking, housing searching and acquisition.
