About Union County Connects
A unique and exciting opportunity exists to create trails connecting all towns in Union County New Jersey. Trails, spanning from Elizabeth to Plainfield and Summit to Rahway, will create safe, sustainable, and equitable access to nature as well as new recreational and transportation opportunities. Union County Connects is a nonprofit organization that will support the Union County Parks and Transportation Master Plans, as well as municipal bike and pedestrian plans, through the promotion and development of trails. Enhanced trails will offer residents of our communities easy access to nature for a range of activities including walking, biking, running, birding, and boating. Trails and Greenways have been proven to enhance local economic activity and support healthy lifestyles. The trails will help to preserve local history and culture, provide opportunities for community engagement through artistic installations, as well as protect the environment and reduce congestion on our roadways. The founding members of Union County Connects have worked closely with the East Coast Greenway, National Rails Trails Conservancy, New Jersey Bike and Walk Coalition, September 11th National Memorial Trail, Summit Park Line Foundation, and the New Jersey Trails Action Network. Uniquely positioned in the heart of New Jersey, Union County has the potential to be a vital link in a wider network of trails being developed all around the Tri-State Region.
