Uniquely Plus Size was founded by Ms. Fabiola The Idea for Uniquely Plus Size came about in February of 2007. The combination of frustration and the unwillingness to settle for what was offered in the world of modeling pushed Ms. Fabiola to start Uniquely Plus Size. Uniquely Plus Size was originally created simply to provide more opportunities for plus size models in the Boston area. As the company has begun to grow, Ms. Fabiola has realized that plus size people are put at a disadvantage on many of things that they can do because of their size. The messages that Uniquely Plus Size wants to send to the community and the world are to love the body you’re in and also to love your uniqueness. In October of 2007, Uniquely Plus Size started to prepare to add a separate pageantry division. This division was created after Ms. Fabiola realized that many of the current plus size beauty pageants were not out for promoting a positive body image, but rather to make money from the plus size community. Ms. Fabiola than became determined to create a pageant that was both different from the others, but also more affordable for people to enter. While the main focus of the pageant remains on promoting positive self image and challenging the contestants’ creativity, fashion sense and level of confidence. Uniquely Plus Size has, does, and will continue to create an environment where the plus size community can turn to for support on a variety of topics, via information on modeling, fashion, health, beauty and events. We plan on making changes, not just in the plus size community, but also in people everywhere of all shapes, sizes, and colors, so that everyone can truly “Love Your Uniqueness”.
