About University of Agriculture, Faisalabad
The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), founded in 1906 as the Punjab Agricultural College and Research Institute, Lyallpur, has played a pioneering role in converting barren lands into fertile, food-secure regions during British India’s canal colony era. It was upgraded to West Pakistan Agricultural University in 1961 with academic support from Washington State University and renamed UAF in 1973. Since then, it has remained Pakistan’s premier institution in agricultural education, research, and innovation. Ranked 1st in Pakistan and 34th globally in Agriculture & Forestry by QS 2025, UAF thrives under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali. The university encompasses 9 faculties, 3 constituent colleges, 1 community college, and 6 centers, serving over 33,000 students 52% of them women across a wide range of academic disciplines including veterinary sciences, engineering, food and nutrition, social sciences, and humanities. UAF’s robust research ecosystem includes the Pak-Korea Nutrition Center, D-8 Food Security Center, Confucius Institute, ICDD-Germany, ISTA Lab, CABB, and the CAS-AFS, a flagship center established in collaboration with U.S. partners. Backed by 467 PhD faculty and more than 135 MoUs, the university has developed 11 crop varieties, filed 30 patents and trademarks, and oversees 189 national research projects valued at PKR 1.76 billion. Recognized as a Special Technology Zone (STZA), UAF fosters entrepreneurship through its Business Incubation Center and Agri Connect Innovations Pvt Ltd. It leads research in AI, climate-smart agriculture, One Health, e-agriculture, and sustainable food systems aligned with the UN SDGs. UAF’s green energy initiatives including a 1.5 MW solar plant and biogas projects with Pak Suzuki and ADB underscore its climate leadership. Firmly rooted in rural outreach and food security, UAF continues to shape Pakistan’s agricultural transformation with global relevance and impact.
