About University of Michigan Electric Boat
The University of Michigan Electric Boat (UMEB) team is an entirely student-led project team seeking to develop the next generation of engineers through leadership and sustainable technologies. Each year our team designs, builds, and races an electric-powered boat to compete and represent the University of Michigan on the national stage at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. UMEB is also competing on the world stage as we attempt to set a new world electric water speed record with our newest creation. In 2020, during our first year competing in the Promoting Electric Propulsion (PEP) college event, our team placed 2nd overall. The PEP competition is held in conjunction with the bi-annual Multi-Agency Craft Conference, giving our team the opportunity to show our designs and learn from numerous industry leaders. We iterated on the original design until the spring of 2023, and then we shifted gears to go after world water speed records with a new boat design. This past summer (2024) UMEB attended the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, where we showcased our next generation racing craft: TiDE. In the spring of 2025, UMEB will compete at a private electric kilometer records event to attempt to set a new world record for the world's fastest electric boat with TiDE. In the summer of 2025, we will continue to campaign TiDE at showcase events around the midwest, such as the Boyne Thunder Poker Run, and we will also return to the Lake of the Ozarks shootout with the goal of setting a new record for electric powered speedboats at the event.
