The School of Art at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, offers curricula leading to the Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Studio Art and the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art. Our vibrant community is comprised of active, accomplished art historians, artists, filmmakers, and ambitious undergraduate and graduate students. Our comprehensive programs in studio art, cinema studies, and art history prepare students for careers in the visual arts and other cultural and creative fields. The School of Art offers its students access to traditional and 21st-century technologies in its photography, metal, wood, ceramics, printmaking, filmmaking studios, and digital labs. School of Art students have the unique opportunity to experience the diverse social and cultural life of a large world-class university, while receiving close, one-on-one instruction in all four of our undergraduate degree paths. Our faculty ground our students in the rich and diverse global history of art while guiding them to the leading edge of contemporary, interdisciplinary practices. Over four years, our students develop the creative vision and sophisticated skills that empower them to become truly innovative artists and scholars. Alumni of our program commonly pursue graduate education and successful careers in the visual arts and education, including positions in industry, museums, and galleries. The school offers a three-year MFA degree in Studio Art with concentrations in Ceramics, Painting + Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Time Based Art. Our program is ranked 42nd nationally—22nd public—by US News and World Report, and our Printmaking concentration is ranked 4th nationally, 3rd publicly.
