About University of Zadar
The University of Zadar, established in 2002 by the Croatian Parliament, renews a centuries-old academic tradition dating back to the founding of Studium generale in 1396. Despite termination in 1807, modern higher education began in 1955 with the Faculty of Philosophy. Today, it's the largest fully integrated university in Croatia, with 27 departments, five research centers, and two teaching centers. The University of Zadar has 664 employees, including 453 academic staff and 211 non-academic staff. Its organizational structure aligns with integrated higher education principles. The University of Zadar articulates its fundamental task in the strategic period from 2023 to 2028 through its mission, by which the University of Zadar is a space of creativity and transfer of new knowledge and technologies. The university's vision from 2017-2022 positions it as a modern international institution, a generator of knowledge, and an instigator of innovative changes based on societal needs, equal opportunities, social responsibility, and high ethical standards. Under the Bologna Reform, the University of Zadar follows the 3 + 2 + 3 cycle, offering three-year undergraduate, two-year graduate, and three-year doctoral programs. Two integrated programs last five years. There are 35 full-time undergraduate programs, with eight offered part-time. At the graduate level, there are 43 full-time programs, with eight available in both full-time and part-time formats. Programs cover humanities, social sciences, and diverse fields such as natural, biotechnical, technical, biomedical, and interdisciplinary studies. The University of Zadar offers seven doctoral and one postgraduate specialist program, independently or in collaboration. Joint doctoral programs include Sociology with the University of Teramo and International Relations with Libertas International University.
