About Urban Planning and Development Corporation
Urban Planning and Development Corporation of America, Inc. was founded in 1967 by Elisha Brown. One of a family of companies, UPDC compliments its sister companies Brown-Kortkamp Realty Company. UPDC was originally conceived as a real estate development, urban planning and construction firm. During the 1970’s, The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded UPDC a contract to construct McMillan Manor, a 34 unit-housing complex at the intersection of Taylor and McMillan streets in the city of St. Louis. UPDC also completed the Betts Park project in Charleston, Missouri, a 50 unit low to moderate income housing complex. During subsequent years, the scope of services offered by UPDC expanded to include land acquisition and relocation services. These services have since become UPDC’s core business. The City of St. Louis awarded UPDC its first land acquisition and relocation contract in 1990. The contract called for acquiring and relocating approximately 500 households in Kinloch, Missouri as part of Lambert-St. Louis International Airport’s Noise Mitigation program. To date, subsequent clients have included HUD, Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), engineering firms, city governments and private developers.
