About Urban Research Lab

WHO WE ARE Urban Research Lab (URL) is an international multidisciplinary architectural practice based in Singapore. We are an innovative research and development based studio with a reputation for contemporary and sustainable design. Our expertise spans a broad range of sectors and typologies from large scale master plans and airports to private house interiors. URL is staffed by a cosmopolitan team of designers from Europe, Asia, USA and Australia, our studio is currently designing projects in 14 separate countries and has received numerous awards and accolades for its work. HOW WE WORK Through our office based and collaborative research, we create buildings and products that are contemporary, contextual and sustainable. This holistic design approach allows us to provide our clients with integrated design solutions for the most challenging of projects. Our designers and engineers approach each project together to utilise our combined expertise and ensure creative design solutions. From the outset, we incorporate a sustainable design ethos. Initially we employ passive techniques to ensure building orientation, form and site location all reduce energy consumption. Environmental technologies specific to individual projects compliment the passive techniques to offer the most effective sustainable design solutions. We work extremely closely with our clients, consultants and collaborators to foster strong working relationships to ensure our clients’ and our own aspirations for both best value and architectural excellence are achieved. As part of our internal quality assurance system, formal design reviews are regularly undertaken by the directors to ensure the quality of the design and best practice methodologies are constantly employed on all projects in the studio. Informal reviews with participants from all disciplines are arranged at key stages of the design process to encourage further research and the evaluate our designs.
