About USC Dornsife Department of Economics
The USC Department of Economics is a dynamic environment for research, teaching, and studying. Academic excellence is informed by taking economic research beyond traditional boundaries, often collaborating with other disciplines. Our research ranks among the Top 20 (#13) U.S. academic institutions and we are deeply committed to bringing creativity and critical thinking to some of the most pressing current challenges in society. Our internationally recognized scholars interact with one of the most diverse student populations at any United States university. Distinguished faculty members are leaders in the areas of Econometrics, Experimental/Behavioral Economics, Development Economics, Urban/Environmental Economics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics. Undergraduates earn B.A. degrees in Economics, Philosophy Politics & Economics, Political Economy, or Social Sciences with Emphasis in Economics; and B.S. degrees in Economics/Mathematics and Economics & Data Science. Their formal quantitative training gives them a decided edge in real-world and public policy contexts. In 2020-21, four of the 25 USC Fulbright Scholarships were awarded to economics graduates. The highly-ranked Masters of Applied Economics and Econometrics (MS-AEE) is a robust program of core economic theory and applied knowledge utilizing several specialized tracks, among them Big Data, Consulting, and Economic Policy. The doctoral program attracts multiple applications from around the globe and ultimately accepts 12-15 candidates per year. Upon graduation, these talented candidates are placed in academia, industry, and government. Enthusiastic support from Economics alumni and friends adds immeasurably to the success of the Department. Members of the Economics Leadership Council and Women in Economics advocate on behalf of the department with peers and business colleagues, raising our visibility and enhancing our reputation.
