About Uyghur NextGen Project
The Uyghur NextGen Project is a U.S. based humanitarian 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Uyghur diaspora via international development work, domestic advocacy, and cultural education initiatives. Domestically, UNGP promotes Uyghur history, culture, and language via community events and online outreach. Our organization seeks to raise awareness of the challenges faced by the Uyghur people, promote a better understanding among Americans of Uyghur culture, and to raise funds for Uyghur development projects. Internationally, UNGP manages two development projects Palwan Community Center and Palwan Boxing Gym, both in Istanbul, Turkey. The community center serves at-risk Uyghur teenagers via free mentorship, social programming, and academic courses. The gym, which is centered around boxing, a sport important to the Uyghur people, emphasizes athletic and mental discipline while serving as a youth outreach tool and introduction to Palwan's other resources. UNGP is also currently working to reopen Caravan Uyghur Cuisine. One of Manhattan's first Uyghur restaurants, Caravan was shut down in 2022 due to a landlord dispute. Uyghur NextGen is providing emergency aid to the affected Uyghur family, working to lease a new location, and hopes to reopen their business by Spring 2023.
