✦ Brief History of VACSERA 1881: Establishment of the first laboratory under the Health Authority; smallpox vaccine produced in 1893. 1907: Successful production of the rabies vaccine in Egypt. 1939–1947: Expansion in Agouza, Cairo with new laboratories producing vaccines for smallpox, typhoid, cholera, and tetanus. 1948: Creation of Egypt’s first central blood bank and plasma laboratory. 1950s–1960s: Introduction of the BCG (tuberculosis) vaccine, diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, and establishment of animal farms to support vaccine production. 1972: Presidential decree establishing the Egyptian Organization for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA). 1979: Transformation into an economic authority. 2002: Converted into a Holding Company with subsidiaries in vaccines, sera, medicines, biotechnology, blood transfusion, diagnostics, and veterinary vaccines. 2006: Corporate restructuring and merger of some subsidiaries. Today, VACSERA stands as Egypt’s leading producer of vaccines, sera, and biological products, ensuring national health security while supporting research and export activities.
