About Valais Cantonal Rescue Organization 144
"Any person who is ill, injured, or in distress must receive appropriate assistance as quickly as possible, regardless of where they are." This is a high aspiration – and Valais is vast. To come as close as possible to this ideal, the Canton of Valais created the Cantonal Valaisan Rescue Organisation (KWRO) through the 1996 Rescue Act, assigning it several core responsibilities. These responsibilities were further defined in the 2016 Act and Ordinance on the Organisation of Emergency Medical Services. The KWRO provides all services entrusted to it by the Canton, in particular: - the regular assessment of prehospital and emergency medical needs, and submission of planning measures to the State Council - the implementation of the rescue planning adopted by the State Council - the handling of all emergency medical calls, in both French and German - the coordination of seamless rescue operations with other emergency services, as well as the operation of the Emergency Medical Dispatch Centre 144 - the initial and continuing education of emergency medical dispatchers and rescue personnel assigned by the Emergency Medical Dispatch Centre 144 - the quality assurance of rescue services through a case documentation system enabling statistical analysis - the public education on how to access the urgent medical care system
