About Valarion

Valarion partners with mining companies to innovate, confirm and commercialise scalable post mining land use (PMLU) technologies. Our scalable (“plug and play”) PMLU technologies aim to: • Minimise rehabilitation costs. • Accelerate time to relinquishment. • Increase rehabilitated land offtake value. • Enhance social license. Valarion offers an alternative research model for confirming and scaling new PMLU technologies. We take a lean pragmatic academic approach to providing commercial solutions for commercial problems. With coal mining competencies in place, Valarion can rapidly deliver projects on site with minimal input from mining staff. We have a working knowledge of regulatory frameworks that impact the scaling of commercial PMLU solutions. Our current projects include: • The development of a microalgae-based void PMLU that may avoid non-use management area (NUMA) minimisation and diversifies regional economic activity. • Prototype testing of a novel technology that will unlock void water to de-risk a mine’s reliance on raw water allocations and support an irrigation PMLU. • A pilot scale fertigated high value Manuka Honey plantation for scaling on rehabilitated land. • A long-term grazing study aimed at creating grazing PMLU landform evolution software. • Development of statistically robust grazing management guidelines for sloped rehabilitated land. Mining companies have also engaged Valarion to deliver desktop studies relating to biofuel production, carbon offset potential, and grazing PMLU management.
