About Vancouver Musicans' Association, Local 145 of AFM
We are the largest Musicians’ Association in Western Canada. Our mission is to fight for the interests and well being of the musicians employed in our geographic jurisdiction. We do that through collective bargaining and by putting all of our members on a sound business foundation. The many benefits provided by Local 145 to our members help to ensure professional musicians receive fair treatment and fair wages for their services. Our members include The Vancouver Symphony, The Vancouver Opera Orchestra, The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, The Prince George Symphony Orchestra, the Broadway Show pit musicians, the freelance musicians who perform in British Columbia’s many other musical venues, the jazz artists, hotel, club date and cabaret musicians, recording musicians, and the musicians in the rock, blues and contemporary music scenes. A few benefits of membership: Contract Defense Fund Free, professional performance contracts enforced by the VMA. Employer/engager contributions paid into: The Musicians’ Pension Fund of Canada $3,500 death benefit after one year of membership. Discount on the best instrument, equipment and liability insurance in Canada! Assistance in obtaining P-2 Work Visas to allow members to legally work and be paid as musicians in the United States. Emergency Travelling Assistance Program: toll free numbers in Canada and the US for member use, 24 hours per day, when experiencing contract related problems with engagers, emergency cash also available. Access to Recording Industries Music Performance Trust Funds Residual payments on digital streaming, film and television scoring, sidelining, jingles and other electronic media. AFM licensed booking agents. VMA referral service Audition postings. Free legal assistance for collecting on defaulted contracts.
