About Vanderbilt Relay For Life

Relay for Life at Vanderbilt started as an outshoot of the greater Nashville Relay for Life in 2006. It became a student organization in 2008. Nationally, Relay for Life began in 1985 at the University of Puget Sound. It has since grown to be the largest nationwide fundraiser. Every year there are over 4 million participants and over 5,000 Relay For Life events, which take place in more than 20 countries around the world. Not only has Relay for Life inspired millions, but it has also raised over $4 billion for the American Cancer Society, largely funding cancer research. Vanderbilt University receives over $4 million each year in cancer research grants from the ACS. We aim to raise $100,000 each year.
