Founded in 2008, Variance Films has grown from a one-man operation to a leading independent theatrical distributor. Variance's model is to partner directly with filmmakers, producers, streamers, and even other distributors for innovative and amplified theatrical releases. RECENT HIGHLIGHTS: In 2021, Variance handled theatrical sales and distribution on Ryusuke Hamaguchi's DRIVE MY CAR for Sideshow/Janus Films, which grossed over $2.4 million in the US and received four Academy Award nominations (including Best Picture, Director, and Adapted Screenplay), and one win for Best International Feature. In 2022, Variance conceived of and executed an innovative re-release of S.S. Rajamouli's Telugu blockbuster masterpiece RRR just ten weeks after its initial diaspora-centered release, kicking off an incredible wave of international appreciation that, after a campaign designed and managed by Variance, culminated in a historic Academy Award win for Best Original Song - India's first Academy Award for a feature film. In 2023, Variance was selected by AMC Theatres to power the US theatrical release for the first film of their new distribution division, TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR. After an incredible $92m debut weekend and $180m+ domestic gross, AMC tapped Variance again for its follow-up release, RENAISSANCE: A FILM BY BEYONCÉ. In addition to partnering with companies, Variance scouts for emerging talent it can amplify, and has released the debut features from visionary filmmakers such as Terence Nance, Eliza Hittman and Damien Chazelle.
