The Venice Heritage Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, showcasing, and nurturing Venice's diverse cultural heritage and history. The Venice Heritage Museum, a project of the Foundation, serves as a tangible embodiment of this mission, offering exhibitions, educational programs, and events that give visitors the opportunity to experience the stories of one of our country's most culturally rich and innovative communities. ——— The Venice Heritage Foundation was born in 2008 to build the first-ever museum for Venice, CA. What started as a collection quickly evolved into the Venice Heritage Museum project, a "museum without walls," that developed programming to connect the project to Venice residents through regular pop-up exhibitions and events. In 2021, we launched the inaugural capital campaign to establish the Venice Heritage Museum with a brick-and-mortar location and accessible scholarly archive, raising over $300,000. Concurrently, we developed new initiatives such as our Community Archives, the Annual Venice Heritage Film Festival, and our flagship comprehensive Oral History Project that captures the experiences of long-time locals. In March of 2024, we opened the Venice Heritage Museum in our new home at 228 Main Street with our inaugural exhibition, This is some place. Going forward, the museum will continue to present year-round programming that serves as a dynamic platform for Venice’s living heritage.
