About Verbal Behavior Special Interest Group
The Verbal Behavior Special Interest Group (VB SIG) is a 501(c)(3) organization and a special interest group of the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI). Its purpose is to support the advancement of verbal behavior research and treatment approaches. Verbal behavior may be conceptualized as language from a behavior analytic perspective. The VB SIG supports the study of verbal behavior as defined by B.F. Skinner. This particular perspective defines verbal behavior as behavior that is reinforced through social mediation (Skinner, 1957). From this perspective, verbal behavior is examined and organized according to the environmental variables that influence it.
