About Verdancy

Verdancy is the startup in the making from AG Schwaneberg at Institute for Biotechnology-RWTH Aachen University and Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials | DWI. Vision: The green colors of exceptionally healthy plants stand apart—vibrant, energetic, lush, verdant. We aim to help plants in expressing these true colors and witness true verdancy in every field where our solutions are used. We seek to enhance not only the health of plants but also the well-being of entire farm ecosystems and the entire mankind dependent on them. Mission: We're committed to replacing synthetic polymers in crop nutrition (by 2028) and protection products (by 2031) with our fully biodegradable, microplastic-free alternatives. This commitment aligns with the EU Regulatory ban on microplastics and non-biodegradable ingredients (EU) 2023/2055. Technology: We load active substances for crop protection and nutrition in biopolymer-based microgels which are programed to release them with tunable kinetics (quick or slow release) upon specific trigger (UV, temperature, pH, humidity). We decorate the outer surface of microgels with peptides which act as anchors for the microgel containers and stick them to leaves preventing wash-off by rain. Our technology is fully biodegradable, microplastic-free and allows same effect in the field with smaller amount of active substance. Business model: Both biological and synthetic active substances could benefit from our delivery system. We're pursuing collaboration with Plant Health companies, offering them a platform to formulate new or reformulate existing products.
