Viamux provides DAB/DAB+multiplex head-end equipment (antenna, amplifier, SDR and multiplex server). A DAB/DAB+ encoder is provided for each client radio station locations so that audio is encoded at source to maintain the highest quality. The internet is used as the contribution circuit for encoded audio which ensures that ongoing operating costs are kept to a minimum. Viamux also offers a cloud-based DAB/DAB+multiplex The multiplex server and DAB/DAB+ encoders are co-located in a data centre. From here the 'blended' multiplexed stream is sent directly to the 'head-end' equipment at the transmission site using a virtual private network. Using the cloud ensures that audio encoders and multiplex server benefits from 24-hour system monitoring and on-site technical support. Viamux's sister company, Niocast Digital, was at one time the most populated digital radio multiplex in the world. Located in Manchester, England, the small scale 'minimux' launched on Friday 28th August 2015. It carries up to 20 eclectic and exciting DAB+ programme services, the multiplex brings unprecedented listener choice to the city and provides an essential platform for new content and format innovation. Viamux provided the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI) and the Irish state broadcaster RTÉ with an innovative DAB+ radio network, broadcasting every station on the Irish Radioplayer. Located in Dublin, the system employs two DAB+ multiplexes which carry all 36 of Ireland’s commercial radio stations along with RTÉ’s nine services. The network also switches listeners seamlessly between the Irish Radioplayer app and free-to-air DAB+.
