About Victor Sign Corporation
Originally known as Victor Sign & Display Company, Victor Sign Corporation has been doing business in Chicago since the 1930’s, when a sign painter named Victor Rappaport decided he no longer wanted to paint signs for other people, but instead paint signs for himself. From those humble beginnings in the sign painting business, the original owner expanded his business to include offering not only sign painting services but leasing and installing all manner of outdoor locations and sign displays. With an ever expanding market, Victor Outdoor Advertising was also created to meet the increasing demand for outdoor advertising in a growing city. In the 1940’s and through the 1960’s, original owner Victor Rappaport began building billboard structures along the growing Chicago expressway system. Rappaport also increased the number of painted walls along the highways, and at one time, had over 30 outdoor displays in a variety of Chicago neighborhoods. Also during this time, Victor Outdoor Advertising was the provider of all the signs for the old Comiskey Park. At the end of the 1960’s, Rappaport sold most of his billboards and discontinued Victor Outdoor Advertising. For the next few years, he concentrated solely on his leased spaces and returned to his roots of painted outdoor displays. Upon his retirement in 1972, he sold the business, and it was renamed its current moniker, Victor Sign Corporation. Victor Sign Corporation continues today as Chicago’s oldest continuously operating outdoor sign company, maintaining locations all over the Chicago area, featuring billboards, painted walls, and walls installed with flex or mesh displays. As the business has changed and focused, so has Victor Sign Corporation. We know Chicago’s neighborhoods and Chicago’s business owners, and we strive to get our clients the most for their advertising dollar, just like Victor Rappaport did when he first ventured out on his own way back in 1930.
