Association Vilnius Women’s House was established in 1993 and runs a Crisis Centre for victims of gender based violence since 1996. Since 2012 Association acts as Specialized Help Centre (SHC) for Vilnius City, providing victims of domestic violence with specialized complex help and assistance, including legal information, psychological consultations, mediation in institutions, rights advocacy and empowerment of the victim. Association Vilnius Women’s House together with other NGOs was actively engaged in preparation and pushing through the Protection from Violence Law (2011). According to the Law, SHC receive information from the Police and pro-actively contacts the victim. In this manner SHC is closely connected with the Police as well as Children’s Rights Protections Agencies – if children are involved. NGO Vilnius Women’s House Vision: World without violence. NGO Vilnius Women’s House Mission: - Dedication to elimination of all forms of gender violence; - Empowerment of women to overcome domestic violence providing women-centred services; - Feminist counselling and rights advocacy; - Consciousness raising and awareness building in the issues of women’s human rights enforcement; - Addressing violence against women as a political issue, advocacy and political lobbying for effective law implementation and protection of the women; - Networking and cooperation of women’s organizations, in Lithuania and other countries, to consolidate efforts for combating gender based violence.
