About Vilniaus universiteto Teisės klinika
Vilnius University Legal clinic is a non-profit organization established in 1998. It follows the best traditions of western democratic societies and allows clients from vulnerable backgrounds to get free legal aid and access to justice. Graduate students from Vilnius University Faculty of Law give advice to the clients, both in writing and verbally. Students’ work is supervised by professional advocates and law scholars who teach at Vilnius University Faculty of Law. This is to ensure that the services provided are high quality and reliable. Our mission was acknowledged by the President of the Republic of Lithuania and other authorities. Legal clinic has advised more that 50’000 clients. Our aims are to: (1) provide quality free legal aid for people from disadvantaged backgrounds who could not hire professional lawyers.; (2) provide this disadvantaged group with practical skills and knowledge, which they could use in the future (education or career); (3) educate the society on legal matters by organizing moots, lectures, workshops. (4) provide students with first hand legal practice and educate them as honest professionals. Our target groups are: (1) vulnerable natural persons; (2) young entrepreneurs and start-ups; (3) non-governmental organisations (NGOs). In particular, we advice NGOs in legislative matters helping them to defend the public interest they care about in both state and local levels.
