About VIOCHAR
Our aim is to create a scalable, modular solution for carbon capture by providing a combined solution to three separate problems. First problem is the disruption of the natural carbon cycle. Carbon that was stored below ground in stable forms is turned into a greenhouse gas by combustion. The size of this problem is approximately 1 billion (10^12) tonnes of atmospheric CO2. The enormity of the problem has resulted in an urgent demand for CO2-removal. This demand cannot currently be met, but is expected to grow rapidly, with the increasing urgency of the climate crisis. The second problem is an excess of biomass waste. This waste can either be byproducts of agricultural production, household waste, invasive species, or excessive weed growth due to fertiliser pollution. Thirdly, the world has an abundance of empty mine shafts in areas where there are no more ressources to extract from the ground. These shafts are a nuisance to communities, and no one wants to foot the bill for filling them up. Our goal is to refine biomass waste into stable, high-carbon biochar and use it to fill out empty mine shafts. This traps the carbon underground and provides an inexpensive form of carbon capture to meet the ever-increasing demand for solutions to the climate crisis.
