Vital Seeds, Inc. (VSI) was established in 2014 to exploit the commercialization of its internationally patented technology “Potatoes out of Ground” (PoG). The PoG is a complete turn-key solution developed to address the market’s growing need for clean potato seed. The term “Potato Seed” is an industry term typically used to reference potato tubers that meet certain cleanliness criteria that qualify them as seed that is either suitable for further propagation or for the production of ware potatoes. Vital Seeds, Inc. is an American company incorporated in the State of Illinois. The production process of potato seed entails a propagation cycle that spans a number of years (AKA, field generation or field years). In the EU it is common for this propagation cycle to span as many as 9 years or in some cases more. In the USA and Canada this cycle is limited to 7 years and more commonly 6. However, the long cycle of planting and replanting of the seed caries with it enormous risk and it is also conducive to spreading plant diseases and virtually permanently contaminating large plats of land. In 2014, VSI developed the PoG solution, which is a combination of internationally patented technology (the Potato Incubator) and procedures that are devised to take the production of potato seed out of soil. By, aeroponically in a clean controlled environment, producing mini-tubers from a tissue culture plantlets and thereafter mini-tubers from their mini-tubers, vital seeds has been able to produce in excess of 3,000 clean mini-tubers (nuclear tubers that are greater than 20mm in diameter) from a single plantlet. Therefore, yielding per-plant clean tubers 1,000 times more than the conventional methods'. The PoG is Vital Seeds’ proven solution that is well on its way to redefine the potato seed production process on a global scale. Today, vital seed made it possible for the market to produce 2nd field generation seed at the cost of 9th field generation.
