About Voices of Birralee

Voices of Birralee is a Brisbane based child and youth choral organisation founded in 1995 by Artistic Director, Julie Christiansen OAM. We simply believe every child has a song in their heart and that singing is as important and natural for a child to do as walking, talking and dancing. Birralee comprises six ensembles, and caters for approximately 350 young people aged between 5 and 30 years and employ 12 casual staff and in excess of 25 volunteers. Along with high artistic standards, our mission is to prioritise performances which have relevance to young people. This focus on community and humanitarian causes helps in the development of responsible young members of society. Birralee's ensembles maintain a schedule of performances in support of organisations such as World Vision, Anglicare, CareFlight, The Abused Child Trust, Bravehearts, and the Wesley Mission. They have recorded a total of eleven CDs in addition to three ABC Classic FM Releases. Birralee has three signature ensembles,Brisbane Birralee Voices, Birralee Blokes, and Resonance of Birralee, all of which have been acclaimed home and abroad, winning numerous awards, competitions and festivals all over the world. These ensembles provide experienced singers with an opportunity to expand their musical education and to rise to the challenge of achieving high artistic standards in a friendly and creative environment. VoB is currently the official supplier of choral music to the Australian Government's WW1 Centenary Commemorations in Villers-Bretonneux, in France, with two ensembles touring and performing in Europe each year from 2015-2019. Voices of Birralee is also the owner and operator of the Qld Youth Music Awards, an annual music festival for school aged choirs and instrumental ensembles. Held in May each year, QYMA engages with over 4000 students in a celebration of music, learning, and community. Go to QYMA.org for more information.
