Vulcan Imaging Associates (VIA) formerly Radiology Associates of Alabama (RAB) is a diversified radiology group based in Birmingham, Alabama comprised of 19 partners, 3 part-time employees, and 2 musculoskeletal fellows. While we were officially incorporated as RAB in 1969, our roots can be traced back to 1915 when James A. Meadows Sr., MD began serving what is now St. Vincent’s Birmingham. We are one of the oldest, most established radiology groups in the state of Alabama. In accordance with our commitment to excellence and self-improvement, approximately 70% of our radiologists are fellowship-trained meaning an extra 1-2 years of specialized work has been completed beyond typical residency training. We provide a full range of radiology services ranging from interpretation of all modalities including radiography, CT, MR, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and mammography; interventional procedures including biopsies, injections, pain management, and drainages involving virtually any location in the body; and cutting-edge services including 2D shear wave elastography for liver fibrosis/cirrhosis staging and a full range of musculoskeletal ultrasound services rarely seen outside quaternary care centers. VIA has also long ago partnered with Pediatric Radiology Associates based at Children’s Hospital of Alabama to provide our patients with arguably the best pediatric radiology care in the state. Our mission at VIA is to provide our patients and referring physicians with the highest quality, most consistent, and most state-of-the-art radiology services. Our dedication to patient care cannot be denied, and we have been honored to serve the greater Birmingham community for the past 100 years.
