About Waitapu Farms
Waitapu Farms is a 1500 acre dairy farm unit in the picturesque rural community of Tomarata, approximately 10 minutes from Wellsford, an hour north of Auckland. The farm milks approximately 900 cows through two herringbone milking sheds and also supports our replacement stock of 200 - 250 heifers and the same number of weaners. Waitapu Farms supply Fonterra Co-operative and the combined production of the two milking sheds is typically over 300,000 kgMS per year. The majority of the herd are Spring calving cows, while a smaller herd calves in Autumn and is milked through winter. Our full time staff are all accommodated in good quality houses and flats on the farm. The farm also offers self-contained, self-catering farmstay accommodation in a 3 bedroom cottage, located close enough to the farming operation to see some of the day to day activity, while also providing a tranquil and private retreat. With quality fittings and furnishings and all linen supplied, Radcliffe Cottage can provide a great base from which to experience farm life and / or explore the local area and attractions including Pakiri Beach with horse riding and a surf beach, or Mangawhai and Matakana, with their wineries and eateries, plus the renowned Saturday farmers markets. Guests at the cottage are welcome to visit the milking sheds on the farm and during the calving season we offer calf feeding, which is a delightful experience for young and old alike. For a boutique corporate retreat or small business meeting with a distinctly 'away from it all' feel, guests are welcome to book the cottage for day and / or overnight retreats and we can provide catering on request.
