About Walker Business Leaders Toastmasters Club

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that builds confidence and teaches public speaking skills through a worldwide network of clubs that meet online and in person. In a supportive community or corporate environment, members prepare and deliver speeches, respond to impromptu questions, and give and receive constructive feedback. Founded in 1924, the organization is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado with approximately 270,000 members in more than 14,200 clubs in 148 countries. The Walker Business Leaders Toastmasters Club is inspired by Maggie Lena Walker. She was a former slave who became an entrepreneur, had a collaborative spirit, was a leader of an organization where African Americans pooled money together for business and life insurance support, and was the first woman to charter a bank. Due to her collaborative spirit, Walker convinced two other banks to merge with her during a down time in the market to merge with her ban in Richmond VA. That bank has multiple names familiar to today’s generation, such as Premier Bank and Peoples Bank. The Walker Business Leaders Toastmasters Club is a collaborative team of small business owners and entrepreneurs working together for larger speaking platforms and business opportunities.
