A Coordinated Voice Moving Forward As one of the key industries of our region, the maritime sector accounts for 57,000 direct jobs in Washington State and another 90,000 indirect and induced jobs. Yet it is also perhaps our most neglected industry sector. In recent months, a diverse group of maritime industry organizations and companies have begun working to change that by forming the Washington Maritime Federation. Maritime interests are extremely broad and interdependent. From shipping and logistics to recreational boating, the industry is inextricably linked. By tapping into such interconnections and common goals the Washington Maritime Federation will be an effective tool to build consensus and influence change.
