About Washington Studio School
Washington Studio School's (WSS) mission is to offer exceptional visual arts learning opportunities to District and Washington-area residents of all skill levels in a welcoming, inclusive and focused environment. We teach skills of observation, critical analysis, and material technique in the time-honored disciplines of drawing, painting, mixed media, and sculpture. WSS encourages the use of these skills and techniques by students and workshop attendees as a catalyst for producing work that is personal, relevant, and contemporary. The WSS vision is twofold: to be a recognized and accessible cultural center for studio-based programming and an incubator and contributor to the District's vibrant arts community. WSS makes available regular free participatory public programs, exhibits, and artist talks of local and nationally recognized artists; affordable drop-in figure drawing sessions; artist studios; and programs that engage, connect and enrich District residents and visitors.
