About Waterloo Space Research Team
The Waterloo Space Research Team empowers undergraduate students to explore the frontiers of space research through hands-on design, engineering, and experimentation. Our mission is to advance knowledge in aerospace applications, science, and technology while fostering innovation and collaboration. By providing opportunities to build and test impactful experiments, we aim to equip the next generation of leaders in space exploration and engineering. 🛰️ UW ASTRA (Adaptive Signal Transmission and Real-time Analytics) This cutting-edge research experiment focuses on improving communications by filtering out cosmic noise in real time, enabling high-frequency data transmission in the stratosphere. The project, competing in the Canadian Stratospheric Balloon Experiment (CAN-SBX) integrates adaptive filtering systems, noise detection, and machine learning for enhanced signal clarity. ASTRA aims to test its systems under extreme environmental conditions and develop technologies adaptable for future space communication challenges. 🚀 Waterloo Space Soldering Team Tackling the challenge of improving solder joint reliability in microgravity, where traditional soldering techniques often result in weaker connections, WSST completed its flight campaign in the Canadian Reduced Gravity Experiment (CAN-RGX) and received the overall excellence award. Working on post-flight analysis, the team is on a mission to enhance spacecraft electronics for long-term missions. Follow us along our journey to push the boundaries of space technology and research!
