Story of how Wavio came to be: Greyson Watkins, the company’s founder, is profoundly Deaf. Back in 2014, he was taking care of a little girl. The little girl accidentally tripped and fell down the stairs and cried for his help. Greyson couldn’t hear her crying until she had to walk over to get his attention. He was struck with an overwhelming feeling of helplessness. From this realization, Wavio was founded in 2015 with a social impact vision to make generic, ambient sounds accessible by integrating sound recognition software on machines. In doing so, Greyson envisioned a world where everyone and everything can be aware of the surrounding sounds, and where machines can communicate efficiently via IoT solutions intelligently responding to specific sounds such as those associated with emergencies, natural disasters, context and other life-threatening scenarios.
