About We Care of Central Florida, Inc
We Care of Central Florida (We Care) was initiated in 1998 by the Polk County Medical Association to increase access to specialty medical care, labs, diagnostics, and procedures for low-income, uninsured residents of Polk County. Today, We Care is a well-established referral program with a 150-member strong, growing network of volunteer physicians, allied healthcare professionals, diagnostic and surgical facilities, and administrative support staff dedicated and passionate to bringing change to our community. In addition to providing access to specialty care services, diagnostics, labs, and procedures, We Care operates four additional Projects: Project Think Pink (PTP) – Since 2010, PTP has provided mammograms and diagnostic breast care services. In addition, We Care assures that there is the capacity to continue treatment after an abnormal finding or diagnosis of breast cancer. This includes biopsies, ultrasounds, and/or comprehensive cancer treatment via a partnership with Moffit Cancer Center. Project New Sight (PNS) – Since 2018, PNS has provided access to eye health and vision care services to enhance human performance and quality of life. In addition, We Care assures that there is the capacity to continue treatment after an abnormal finding or diagnosis. This includes glaucoma treatments, cataract surgeries, and eyeglasses. Project Ride to Health (PRTH) – Since 2019, PRTH has increased healthcare access by providing FREE transportation via Uber Health to any healthcare appointment in Polk County. The goal is to improve health outcomes by ensuring the right patient receives the right ride at the right time. Project Helpful Hearts (PHH) – Since 2022, PHH has collected new and gently used durable medical equipment (DME) intended to support those who are mobility impaired due to any physical disability, illness, or injury. Through this project, donated DME is loaned/provided to eligible residents of Polk County.
