About Webgyrlz Code

Webgyrlz Code is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that that focuses on computer science training for girls and women. We offer web development, app development, game design & animation classes. Webgyrlz Code is the 2014 winner of the EngenuitySC Ignite! Ideas contest. Our mission is to teach girls not only to code and to take an interest in STEM based careers, but also help them obtain life skills that will make them successful no matter what career they choose to pursue. Classes are taught at various locations throughout South Carolina. We desire to partner with school districts, home school programs, and community groups to teach females computer programming. Currently, in America less than 10% of the top programming languages employ females. Our goal is to change that by bridging the gap that exists in computer sciences and females pursuing careers in this field. We want to teach girls, before peer pressure sets in, that coding is fun and can become a real part of their educational experience and life. We also want to give women who may never have had the opportunity to learn a tech skill the skills to enter the workforce as a software engineer through our Software Engineer Bridge Program.
